ETSU Community Partnership Center is in a unique position to serve disadvantaged, school aged children, and youth at the Keystone Community Center. The Center is centrally located and accessible to the low-income neighborhoods and housing developments in Johnson City. ETSU staff work collaboratively with Families First, Johnson City Parks and Recreation, and the Johnson City Housing Authority. A gymnasium, youth technology programs, classrooms, and resource library are housed at the Center, and ETSU student and community volunteers are actively involved as tutors and mentors. Post secondary educational and career opportunities and workplace preparedness are emphasized in all programs. Program components offered at the center include intensive case management, educational enrichment and remediation, employment and post-secondary educational counseling, youth technology, and family services.
Program Components Specialized case management services are offered to TANF recipients with an emphasis on the special needs of older children and youth. Services include but are not limited to: Referral to community based educational, social, and mental health services, Advocacy and family support in the school system, Career and educational planning, Identification of learning disabilities and referral to community resources, Family services counseling, including individual, family, and group counseling, A multi-faceted youth enrichment program is offered at the Keystone Center. The Center works cooperatively with Communities in Schools, Johnson City Parks and Recreation, and the Johnson City Housing Authority to offer educational activities and special events to complement existing educational and recreational programs and to recruit youth for the youth technology program. Academic support, Community service opportunities for youth, Youth technology training, Mentoring, Job shadowing, Summer youth employment, Drug and alcohol abuse prevention, Family services workshops, Appalachian Youth Partnership Educational field trips to work places, museums, arts programs. · Career Center – assists with job placement. · In-School Counselor/Youth Coordinators – provides assistance in students’ academic and career counseling. · Paid and Unpaid Work Experience – identifies paid and unpaid work experiences in youth’s areas of interest to provide summer employment and other training opportunities.
